Flint Hills Photocycling Tour

I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to do it because of surgery and everything, but fear not, The Adventure Monkey Flint Hills Photocycling Tour is on for September 14-16.

Yeah, that’s coming up pretty quick and if you are interested in going, I need you to register very soon. In fact I need you to register by September 3! That is only FIVE days away! I have so much room that it is making me a little nervous. I don’t mind the small group, I just don’t want the food and room I have reserved to go to waste.

CLICK HERE to download the information and registration form.

  • Save the form to your computer
  • Fill out the registration in Adobe Acrobat
  • Click the “Submit” button and it will package it to send to me in an email.
  • I will send you a bill via Paypal in your email. It’s as easy as that.

To entice you a little more let me share a few pictures and a tiny bit of explanation. If you still have questions email me and I will get to you ASAP.

Here is the conference center with all the amenties we need for class, hanging out and getting our grub on, not to mention morning coffee and a patio that overlooks the beautiful Flint Hills where we will have our sunrise shoot.

We will have two structured photography classes and time for unplanned discussions on whatever topics come up, from photography to bikepacking techniques.

I will explain how to get the most out of auto exposure modes and more importantly, how to use the manual setting on your camera. We will discuss cameras of every kind. Some have shown up with a phone camera, others with a full blown dslr and a bag of lenses. I don’t want you to worry about what camera you have as much as thinking about how to compose and capture a scene that moves you.

I will also discuss and show you how I handle the post-processing of images. Here is a before and after of an image. I shot the original to capture enough detail in the sky and the ground to be able to go home and finish the job. If I would have exposed for the sky, the ground would have been under-exposed and black. If I would have exposed for the ground, I would have been left with an over-exposed sky with no detail (all white). I exposed in the middle, making sure I had enough detail in the sky to pull it out when I got home. I will have my computer there to show you step by step what I do. Bring your computers and cameras to class for some playtime. Well unless you only have a huge desktop, that would be awkward.

I will also discuss how I get the color I get, black and whites, off camera flash a heavy dose of composition tips and ehatever else you want to ask me about. No secrets are off limits.

Even though I really like the outdoor feeling of the rustic cabins, we have moved up to staying in the nicer cabins that have, wait for it, temperature controlled climates! Yes, that is AC and heat if you didn’t get that. And we no longer have to walk across the yard for the bathroom as each pod has attached bathrooms!

Did I mention I have over 25,000 pictures in my library to look at? You asked about bikepacking? I have a picture of that.

Delightful eats!

This year we have a vegetarian and I am gluten free, so we will have those choices too. Be ready for some yummy, healthy foods!

Need some time away? Camp Wood has plenty of places to shoot or just sit and take it all in.

One of my favorite parts of the tour is getting up for the sunrise shoot. On Saturday, we will shoot from the patio as the sun rises up over the hills. I will have coffee brewed and ready for you.

We will also ride and shoot on a nice 30 mile ride through the area. (here’s the map)

As my friend Lelan shows us, there’s even some modeling opportunities.

We will climb a few hills and find some nice gravel to ride.

On Sunday our final ride is “only if you want to” as I will show you some low maintenance lovin’ on a 25 mile out and back .

And the best part is meeting new people and making new friends!

Register now using This Form. Register by September 3! It is going to be a good one. I have more photography planned than before and the riding will be totally chilled as we will be stopping to shoot pictures and have a good time. I hope to see you there!

Man, I so wanted to go to that again this year, but then I got a couple bookings at my studio for the 15th, so duty calls instead. :( Maybe next Spring…
